Poster Exhibition That Raises Awareness

Updated: May 28, 2019

Design can be a powerful catalyst for bringing attention to important issues that receive only marginal attention. To raise awareness was one of the motivating factors for creating Palu and Lombok Poster Exhibition. With polarized and the absurdity of the news media nowadays in focusing on political with biased editorials rather than real news, this collection of work addressing issues of environment and humanity to educate and stimulate dialogue.

The Palu and Lombok Poster Exhibition is a group exhibition by 24 graphic designers around the world in conjunction with Agnieszka Ziemiszewska Poster Exhibition that was conceived by Pradita Institute, Worldwide Graphic Designers and Summarecon Mal Serpong.

Embedded Messages

The collection of work was created in response to two of the deadliest natural disasters that recently rocked Lombok and Palu in Indonesia. On 5 August 2018, a destructive 6.9 magnitude struck the island of Lombok and followed tragically by another earthquake in Sulawesi island on 28 September 2018. The earthquake in Palu was tragically followed by a tsunami, sweeping houses and buildings on its way. Both horrifying events led to the deaths of at least 2,700 people.

The aims of this exhibition included the creation of connections; stimulation dialogue and exchange; on how graphic designers can contribute to meeting the challenges of human need, no matter how small the contribution is. The response was overwhelming and make us realized that this is a topic that lies close to the hearts of most graphic designers. Unified by topic, the work in this exhibition communicates through art with compelling narratives and pressing for awareness.

Graphic design plays an important role, but we can’t solve the problem alone. Graphic design is important in focusing on problems and in helping the good forces to get some self-confidence.
